FIZA ZORA. Identification of Estrus Cycle in Palm Civet (Paradoxurus
hermaphroditus) by Imaging Vagina Epithelial Observation. Under supervision
of ARYANI SISMIN SATYANINGTIJAS and NASTITI KUSUMORINI.
Common
palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) is one of wild animals that can
be used as best coffee selector. Physiologic information of this animal is
still rare to be found. This information is used to prevent the extinction of
palm civet caused by several factors such as disease or increasing the used of
luwak for human’s need. The aim of this research was to get the information about
total length of estrus cycle and each time of proestrus, estrus, metestrus and
diestrus phase of two common palm civet one year old. Information collected
could be used for conservation by knowing the right time to be mated. Vaginal
swab had been done for 21 days to determine the phase of estrus cycle based on
quantitative of vaginal cells and were examined under microscope. Based on
observation, average total length of estrus cycle in palm civet was 121,5 ±
7,54 hours. Average cycle of proestrus phase was 12 ± 0,00 hours, estrus phase
was 22,5 ± 3,00 hours, metestrus phase was 25,5 ± 3,00 hours and
diestrus phase was 61,5 ± 3,00 hours.
