RATNA LOVENTA SULAXONO. Primary Abnormalities on
Spermatozoa Morphology of Simmental and Limousine Bulls at X Artificial
Insemination Center in Indonesia. Supervised by R IIS ARIFIANTINI.
ABSTRACT
The morphology characteristics of spermatozoa should
be properly evaluated to knowledge severals primary abnormality effect on the
fertility (major abnormality). This research aims to study the primary
spermatozoa abnormality of Simmental and Limousine bulls at X artificial
insemination center (AIC) in Indonesia. The study was conducted on period of
January to February 2016. The smeared semen sample came from BIB X. The smeares
was staining with Williams stain and examined with binocular microscope (400x magnification)
in laboratory Unit Rehabilitation of Reproduction, Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, Bogor. The result showed that the percentage of primary spermatozoa
abnormality in Simmental bull was 9.67%, this was higher than in Limousine bull
(9.13%). There were seven types (knobbed acrosom defect, tapered head, pyriform
head, microcephalic, macrocephalic, nuclear vacuole, and rolled head) of
primary spermatozoa abnormality found in Simmental bulls and six types (knobbed
acrosom defect, tapered head, pyriform head, microcephalic, macrocephalic, and
nuclear vacuole) of primary spermatozoa abnormality found in Limousine bulls.
Tapered head was the highes type of primary spermatozoa abnormality found in
both bulls. Individually there were 41.17% (7/17) of Simentals bulls and 46.15%
(6/13) of Limousine bulls had a primary spermatozoa abnormality more than 10%.
