Cost of Quail Egg (Coturnix-coturnix japonica) with Omega-3 Supplementation in
the Ration

Developing of quail farming to
produce good quality of quail table eggs accelerates with the increasing of
healthy life style. Supplementation of omega-3 obtains from tinning waste of
Lemuru fish (Sardinella longiceps) was applied to produce high concentration of
this essential fatty acid in eggs. The supplementation level was given at 0%,
1,5%, 3%, 4,5%, and 6% (w/w) in the ration. Full costing and variable costing
methods to analyze the production cost of omega-3 eggs were applied. The full
costing method revealed Rp 340,38; Rp 345,46; Rp 347,73; Rp 341,56; and Rp
398,05, meanwhile, the variable costing method obtained Rp 335,39; Rp 340,52; Rp
342,87; Rp 336,89; and Rp 392,71 for an egg with 0%; 1,5%; 3%; 4,5%; and 6% omega-3
supplementation, accordingly. The selling price for one package that consist of
20 eggs based on this costing method resulted in, respectively, Rp 7.601,23; Rp
7.676,98; Rp 7.750,75; Rp 7.634,31; and Rp 8.870,23 for 0%; 1,5%; 3%; 4,5%; and
6% omega-3 supplementation in the ration. The most efficient level of omega-3 supplementation
in the ration was 4,5%.
